Speaking at a press conference organized by the Department here on Friday, Deputy Director General Dr Ram Krishna Khatiwada said bird flu was first detected in Nepal in 2009 and since then the required control measures have been put in place. [break]"So there is no need for the people to panic", he said.
"Be assured we have a mechanism to take things under control even if there is an outbreak of bird flu in ten different locations", boasted Khatiwada.
On the occasion, Dr Khatiwada also urged all poultry farmers, traders and the general public to inform the department if they come across any unnatural or large number of death of chickens.
It may be noted that the Government compensates for the losses incurred in the event of spread of bird flu in private poultry farms, including for the fowls, eggs, feed and meat.
