The bill was registered in the parliament last Thursday.Just as the authority began the tasks of reconstruction in the aftermath of the April 25 earthquake, it had become inactive as the ordinance issued to set up the Authority expired due to the government's failure to replace it with a bill.
The bill could not be tabled in the parliament earlier as lawmakers of UCPN Maoist demanded revision on some of its provisions. After the government revised the bill and added a provision that a committee comprising three experts will be formed under chief executive officer of the Authority, the bill was finally tabled on Tuesday.
Once the parliament endorses the bill, it will replace the ordinance which was introduced to set up the Authority and eventually reactivate the Authority to carry out reconstruction works in the earthquake-hit districts.
