Bhaktapur shrines turning to gambling centers

BHAKTAPUR, Aug. 6: Shrines of various gods and goddesses in Bhaktapur, recognized as an open museum and holy place from religious and cultural viewpoints, have been turning into the centers for gambling.



The trend of gamblers gathering at the shrines of Brahmayani, Maheswori, Kumari, Baraha, Mahakali and Bhadrakali is gradually increasing. [break]



The holy places, which look very beautiful and mind-blowing from tourism perspective, have now turned into a rendezvous for gamblers.



Locals have filed complaints at the police post after they repeatedly failed to curb the ill-practices.





The Metropolitan City range, Bhaktapur, however, said police personnel have been deputed to the shrines time to time.
