As the owner of the jeep, which met with an accident on Monday in Rithapatha-7 of Bajhang leaving seven persons dead and 15 injured, remained out of contact till Tuesday evening, police failed to take the situation under control. Police personnel were mobilized to find out the jeep owner Karan Bahadur Singh but could not be found.
Amala Devi Japrel and Daman Japrel, of Sainpasela-2, six-month-old Jenish Khadka, of Rithapata-6, Police SI Devdutta Bhatta, of Baitadi, Megharaj Giri and his brother Gorakh Giri, of Bhairabnath-1, were killed when an overloaded jeep (Se. 1 cha 351) skidded off the road near the district headquarter, Kesari Rokaya, of Chainpur-6. Fifteen others were injured in the incident. The jeep was carrying 35 passengers.
On Monday, the locals had set two waiting rooms ablaze on the premises of Bajhang DAO after Chief District Officer failed to arrange a helicopter for the rescue of those injured in the accident. Police had to open blank fire to disperse the irate locals.
Later in the night, 14 of the injured were airlifted by a Nepal Army (NA) helicopter to Kathmandu.
Chandrakala Rokaya, of Sainpasela-1, her four year daughter Niruta and two year old son Rakesh, Prem Raj Joshi and his wife Gayatri Joshi, of Chainpur-2, Gyanudevi Khadka, of Rithapata-6, Purna Bahadur Rokaya of Chainpur-6, Kopila Malla of Bhairabnath, Bishna Sharki, of Kadel-7, Rambahadur Sarki, of the same village and Dhruba Khati of Pauwagadhi-8 were injured in the accident.
Jeep driver Ramesh Bhatta and policemen duo Shankar Mahar and Padam Bohara, who were also injured, have been rescued by NA chopper.
