KATHMANDU, May 31: The CPN-Maoist-aligned Nepal Trade Union Federation-Revolutionary (NTUF-R) on Friday demanded that the government fix the minimum monthly pay of workers at Rs 15,000 and the minimum daily wage at Rs 700.

The NTUF-R put forth demand issuing a press statement today. The trade union also said it will not accept the government decision to fix the minimum monthly wage at Rs 8,000. The Minimum Wage Fixation Committee last Monday had fixed the minimum remuneration which includes Rs. 5,100 as salary and Rs. 2,900 as allowance. [break]

It further claimed the government had come up with the monthly pay package for workers after reaching an understanding to that effect with some trade unions who have already detached themselves from the protest. Stating that the deal was against interests of workers, the statement said, "We will be forced to shut down all factories and industries across the country if our demand is not met in the next five day.”
