KATHMANDU, April 3: The united political front of the Maoist hardliners has decided to burn the copies of all “unequal treaties”, including the Peace and Friendship Treaty of 1950 and Bilateral Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement singed with India, to mark the People´s Movement Day on April 6.

A meeting of the front on Tuesday decided to organize the program in Patan that was the vortex of the People´s Movement in 1990. [break]

Besides, the meeting also decided to hold a corner meeting at New Baneshwar on Wednesday to press the lawmakers to draft a “people´s constitution” by May 28.

"We will hand over a letter to all the lawmakers after holding a public function on Wednesday to press them to draft a people´s constitution by May 28," said Mani Thapa, General Secretary of Revolutionary Communist Party that is part of the political front led by the Mohan Baidya faction of the UCPN (Maoist).

Chiefs of the 11 fringe communist and ethnic parties had participated in the meeting chaired by the front´s chief CP Gajurel who is also the secretary of the UCPN (Maoist).

The Baidya faction had formed a united front and announced struggle programs last March, accusing party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal of deviating from the party´s official line.

The party´s official line, as endorsed by the last central committee (CC) meeting, was to launch struggle programs for a “people´s constitution” and “dignified” integration of PLA. The party CC had also decided to form a united front incorporating ethnic groups, leftists and federalists.
