KATHMANDU, June 14: A group of monks from Australia is active in assisting earthquake survivors rendered homeless by the April 25 earthquake.
A team under the command of monk Ven Thich Vien Chon is involved in helping for building temporary shelters using corrugated zinc sheets in Sidhupalchowk, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Gorkha, Dolakha, Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts.

“Altogether, we are helping to construct houses for 2,000 families,” said Bhante Sobhana involved in the social work, “Our work is mainly concentrated in Haku, Danda Gaun Betrawati of Rasuwa.”
The team of Vinh Nghiem Pagoda arrived Nepal on May 9 after the country was hit by the deadly earthquake and focused on distribution of tents and foods.
After the massive aftershock of May 12, monk Chon realized that the victims need more relief. He then left for Australia and concentrated on removing debris and constructing shelters during his second visit on June 11.

“Monsoon is on the horizon and we should manage shelters for victims at the soonest,” Bhante Sobhana told Myrepublica before leaving for Betrawati on Sunday, “We will distribute zinc sheets to 2,000 houses by June 17.”
The Shatinagar-based Bishwo Shanti Bihar is coordinating with local administration for the relief team.
