KATHMANDU, June 30: Coach and captain of Nepali U-19 cricket squad said that the ACC U-19 Asian Cup cricket tournament was fruitful for Nepal, especially ahead of the ICC U-19 World Cup scheduled to begin from August 7 in Australia.

Skipper Prithu Baskota said the U-19 Asian Cup was a good tour for the team. [break]“We have figured out our weaknesses and strengths and all that needs to be improved .”

“We have to improve our batting against medium pacers and also against swing balls,” said Baskota adding “We were close to victory against India in the first innings as we had succeded in restricting them to a moderate total but we failed to bat in the second innings.”

Baskota said the Asian Cup was a good practice match for the Nepali team. “After ACC introduced Asian Cup, teams like Nepal and other Asian nations have been benefited. The tournament has given good practice.”

Coach Pubudu Dassanayake said the U-19 Asian Cup was a great tour for the squad. “The players were exposed against Test playing nations and we know what we have to do before the World Cup.”

“Bowling and fielding of Nepal was good in all matches but the team has to improve its batting,” said the coach, adding, “We batted well against Malaysia but our batsmen could not withstand India and Pakistan.”

Coach Dassanayake informed that the training camp for the preparation for the ICC U-19 World Cup will start from July 8. The coach has given a week leave to the players. Only 11 players have arrived Nepal by Friday. The remaining players will return on Saturday.
