Army schools reach semifinals

KATHMANDU, Aug 30: Army School, Bhaktapur and Army School, Pokhara booked their berths in the semifinals of boys´ section in the Coca-Cola Cup National Inter School Football Tournament on Thursday. Meanwhile, Pathfinder stormed into the semifinal round.



Army School, Bhaktapur defeated Red Star, Morang 1-0 on Thursday in a group A match played at the ANFA Technical Center Chyasal, Lalitpur. Khadga Bahadur Magar scored the decider for the Army School. [break]



Likewise, Army School, Pokhara edged past Gyanodaya Boarding 2-1 as Dev Gurung and Saroj Karki scored a goal each for the winning side. Rohit Gurung scored the consolation goal for Gyanodaya. With the win, Army School, Pokhara topped group C of the tournament.



Pathfinder School, Kathmandu thrashed Devkota Public School, Morang 5-2 to top the group B. Pawan Rai completed a hat-trick while Sudhakar Neupane scored a brace for the winning team. Lomas Pandit and Riwaj Khadka scored a goal each for Devkota.



Meanwhile, Siddhartha Vanasthali, Kathmandu humbled Nepal Police School, Kailali 6-2 in a group D match as Mohan Gurung scored a hat-trick. Ashish Lama, Rohit Subedi and Muskan Lama added a goal each for Siddhartha Vanasthali. Ganesh Kathayat and Danesh Bista scored a goal each for the police school. Himshikhar, Sunsari has already confirmed semifinal place from group D.



In girls´ section, Public Higher Secondary from Sunsari, JP High School of Kathmandu and Tops Higher Secondary from Kaski reached the semifinals.



Public Higher Secondary lost to Nandi High School, Kathmandu 4-1 in tiebreaker. However, ANFA handed over victory to the school from Sunsari as the association found Nandi School had hired a player out of school. After winning the official protest against Nandi in its favor, Public secured runner-up position in group A. Deep Jyoti School, Banke has already secured semifinal berth as a group A winner.



JP High School beat Bal Bikash, Nawalparasi 2-0 as Sunita Khadka and Udisha Rasaili scored a goal each. With the win, JP topped group B while Tops finished runner-up in the group. Tops thrashed Kanara Higher Secondary School, Kailali 6-1. Bimala Chaudhary scored four goals for the winning side while Sunita Nepali added two goals. Asarphi Chaudhary scored the consolation goal for Kanara.
