KATHMANDU, August 5: Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC) Nepal in partnership with UNICEF Nepal and Google organized a two-day appathon starting July 31 with the aim of identifying interactive and assistive technological solutions targeted for differently-abled individuals in order to help them overcome their limitations. Hundred young developers, programmers, designers and technical experts developed several assistive solutions out of which the best three were picked.

The first place was secured by Team Termor whose technological solution was entitled 'Move with Head.' The software allows differently-abled individuals to gain control over the mouse cursor by tracking their head movements and eye signals to enable clicking features. This will help them to use the computer more easily.Team Pychowk stood second with their app 'Travel Buddy.' Once fully operated, this app will enable users to gain access to the whereabouts of all the public transportation vehicles running in their city. Furthermore, with the cooperation of the drivers, the users will be picked up from the station with few clicks in their mobile phones or through voice commands in case of visually impaired individuals.

Team See_Sharp won the third position with their app, 'Register Me.' The app stores personal information like name, age, gender, address, etc and medical information like blood group, type of disability and other necessary inputs. The information will be crosschecked with hospitals, care centers and NGOs in order to provide precise and correct data. The database will be made accessible to public through an app or website. The idea is to provide information to concerned persons, potential donors and government to help differently-abled people acquire support and even jobs as per their qualifications.

The first, second and third winners received cash prizes of Rs 200,000, Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively.
