The UML-aligned youths had disrupted vehicular movement demanding that the traffic police apologize for taking action against their leader who violated the traffic rules.
Rapti police chief Dhanananda Bhatta, who led the four-member panel that investigated the incident, declined to divulge details, but said, “I have sent the report to the regional police office in Surkhet. I am not the one to make the final decision.”
Source say the report states that it was wrong to issue threats to policemen during regular checks but that the way the situation was handled was also a mistake.
The report emphasizes that it was a mistake to apologize without first using minimum force to take the situation under control.
The panel has not recommended any legal action against those who took off their uniforms, but has said that the officers need to be cautioned against repeating such acts in the future.
