APF into men's T20 semifinal

KANCHANPUR, Feb 28: Armed Police Force (APF) on Tuesday entered the semifinals of men´s T20 cricket in the Sixth National Games played at the Covered Hall Ground of Kanchanpur. APF thumped Western Region by 106 runs and topped Group B.



Winning the toss APF opted to bat first and scored 149 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. [break]



Sharad Vesawkar scored 74 runs off 54 balls. Krishna Karki grabbed four wickets conceding 25 runs.



Chasing the 150-run target, Western Region could manage only 43 runs in 13 overs. Skipper Paras Khadka grabbed four wickets, which included a hat-trick, conceding 10 runs. Akash Gupta scored 21 runs.



In another match, Far-western Region registered a seven-wicket victory over Eastern Region. Winning the toss Eastern opted to bat first and was all out for 96 runs. Manjeet Shrestha scored 47 runs off 46 balls. Chandra Saud and Bhuwan Karki grabbed two wickets each.



Chasing 97 runs for victory, Far-western reached the target in 17.3 overs losing three wickets. Pradeep Airee scored 33 runs off 25 balls while Naresh Budhayer scored 25 runs off 18 balls. Manoj Mandal claimed two wickets for Eastern Region.



In the women´s category, Central Region has advanced into the semifinals with two wins from as many matches. Central defeated Western Region by two wickets on Tuesday to top Group B. Winning the toss, Western opted to bat first and scored 103/9. Indu Barma scored 40 runs off 38 balls. Kamala Rai grabbed two wickets for Central.



Central reached the target in 18 overs losing eight wickets. Sangeeta Gauchan scored 14 runs for Central while Indu Barma grabbed three wickets for Western.



In another match, APF beat Eastern Region by nine wickets. Winning the toss Eastern opted to bat first and scored 80 runs losing all wickets. Sarita Magar grabbed four wickets for APF while Anuradha Chaudhary scored 18 runs for Eastern. APF successfully chased the target in 14.2 overs losing one wicket. Madhu Thapa scored 27 runs while Sarita Magar was unbeaten on 22 runs.
