Ansari, Thapa win air rifle gold medals

KATHMANDU, Aug 19: Batuddin Ansari and Krishna Thapa, both from Mid-western Region, won the titles in the 10m air pistol events of men´s and women´s categories respectively in the National Shooting Championship on Friday.



Ansari scored 649 points, out of 700, to clinch the gold medal while Sudan Khadka and Kuber KC finished second and third in the event with 633 and 624 points respectively.[break]



Thapa scored 452 points, out of 500, and won the gold medal. Sunita Maharjan of Nepal Army and Sabita Basnet of Nepal Police secured silver and bronze medals respectively. Maharjan amassed 437 points while Basnet accumulated 423 points.



Tika Ram Shrestha from Eastern Region finished on the pole position of the men´s 10m air rifle with 658 points out of 700. Asim Yadav, also from Eastern Region, finished second with 644 points and Milan Gurung from Central Region finished third with 641 points.



Sneha Rajya Laxmi Rana proved to be the best in women´s 10m air rifle. The shooter from Central Region scored 486 points, out of 500, to claim the gold medal. Juhi Chaudhary from Central Region scored 469 points and Asmita Rai from Nepal Police accumulated 467 points to gain silver and bronze medals respectively.



Mid-western Region won three gold medals during the championship while Eastern and Central Regions clinched two each. Nepal Army won a gold medal in the championship.







National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama and other officials gave away the prizes to the winners.



Altogether 78 shooters, including 36 women, participated in the four-day tournament.
