Another 14.6 MW project in Modi

BAGLUNG, April 7: After Modi I and Lower Modi ´A´ projects, 14.6 MW Middle Modi Hydropower Project will soon be completed in Modi river in Parvat.



Of the seven license holders, three companies are already preparing to construct hydro projects. In addition, 14 MW Modi I is already under operation here. The 10 MW Lower Modi ´A´ was built on a budget of Rs 1.66 billion and the construction of 14 MW Upper Modi is soon going to start, the Upper Modi Hydro Power Company informed. [break]



The process of land acquisition for the construction of Middle Modi is in the last phase, the operator of Middle Modi Hydropower, Basubhakta Shrestha, said. The project cost is Rs 2.50 billion.



The company is acquiring 142 ropanis of land from Birethati, Lumle, Deupur and Bhuktang VDCs in Kaski. There will be a dam at Birethati from where a 2300 m long tunnel will be built connecting it with a power house at Deupur.



Nepali banks are planning to invest in Middle Modi. Shrestha said, “It has not been decided which banks will invest, but talks are on with them.”



Shrestha said it will take three years to complete the project and at present technical study is on for tunnel construction.



After the completion of 132 kv transmission line in Modi, there is no problem in connecting it with the national grid. The project falls along Baglung-Pokhara road section.
