Series of meetings held with the objective of resolving the dispute between the Airport Construction Committee and the parties have ended without any compromise.[break]
Technicians of the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation had conducted a survey two years back for the construction of the airfield on 40 bigahas of land at local Chuhade, Triyuga Municipality-14.
Although it was said that the construction of the airport would begin soon after the completion of the survey work, it has been delayed due to dispute among the big three parties at local level regarding which party should head the Airport Construction Committee.
Currently, Mahendra Rai of the Nepali Congress heads the committee while Baldev Chaudhary of the CPN (UML) is the general secretary.
However, the UCPN (Maoist) is calling for disbanding the old committee and reconstituting it by inducting its representatives as well. However, the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) are not positive to the UCPN (Maoist)’s proposal. This has led to the delay in the construction of the airport in the district considered vital for promoting tourism and travel.
