Airee wins first gold for Nepal

KATHMANDU, March 11: Dan Bahadur Airee won first gold for Nepal in the First South Asian Army Sports Meet 2012 on Sunday at Army Physical Training and Sports Center, Lalitpur.



Airee won gold in men´s Taekwondo 68 kg category. He defeated Anwar Hossain of Bangladesh in the final. Moken Meitei of India and Muhammad Ashfaq of Pakistan claimed bronze medals. [break]



Naori Singh fetched the fourth gold for India as he won the final of the men´s Taekwondo 74 kg category. Singh defeated Mohammad Arman Hossain of Bangladesh in the final. Syed Adeel Shah of Pakistan and Madhusanka of Sri Lanka claimed bronze medals.



In 5000 m race, Nitendra Singh of India clinched gold to take India´s gold medal tally to five. Singh finished the race with the timing of 14:52.2. Lional Samaraheewa of Sri Lanka finished second as he completed the race in 14:52.7 and Arjun Pradhan of India finished third clocking 14:53.8 minutes.



Meanwhile, Sri Lanka defeated Nepal in the league round of men´s volleyball. Sri Lanka defeated Nepal in three straight sets while Bangladesh registered a 3-2 win over Pakistan. Meanwhile, India beat Sri Lanka 2-0 in men´s football.
