Nepal successfully reached a low 112-run target in 24.5 overs, losing five wickets. Nepal, however, had a shaky run chase, with five of its top order batsmen returning to the pavilion in 14th over with just 47 runs on board. [break]
It was late onslaught from number seven Pradip Airee that really ensured a comprehensive win for Nepal.
Airee, who scored a quickfire 34 off 25 balls including four boundaries and a six, shared a match-winning 65-run fifth wicket stand with Shakti Gauchan (18 off 56 balls).
Gyanendra Malla chipped in with a fluent 12 of 16 balls with two fours. Besides, no other Nepali batsman could score in double digits.
For Singapore, Amjad Mahboob took three wickets and Saad Janua claimed one wicket. Nepal conceded 23 runs as extras.
Earlier, electing to bat first, Singapore was all out for 111 in 39.5 overs. Nepal’s Amrit Bhattarai took four wickets to restrict Singapore to a low total.
Bhattarai, who conceded 28 runs in his 9 overs spell, was ably supported by spinner Basanta Regmi, who grabbed three wickets. Likewise, Sanjam Regmi took two wickets, while Shakti Gauchan claimed one.
Nepal and Singapore have played each other twice in 50-over format and Nepal had won both the matches. Nepal will next play Tanzania on Tuesday.
The top two teams of the tournament will qualify into the Division 3, while the bottom two are to be relegated to Division 4.
