Shrestha was given Rs 151,151 raised under initiation of former amateur boxer Siddhartha Bikram Bhandari (Sri) through a charity show in England. Bhandari had raised the amount partnering with Subash Gurung and Maya Outreach. He was handed the amount by his colleague and ´meet´ Prakash Thapa Magar.[break]
He was also given Rs 100,00 from the players´ welfare fund set up by National Sports Council. Nepal National and International Players Association President Deepak Bista handed over the check to Shrestha.
Shrestha is the silver medal winner of 1991 Fifth South Asian Games, Colombo and bronze winner of 1995 Seventh South Asian Games, Madras.
Besides this, Shrestha is the four times national boxing champion. He had won national championship from 2044 BS to 2047 BS.
The 47 year old Shrestha has been suffering from motor neuron disease and has been paralyzed. He is the assistant coach of National Sports Council and had been running Defense Boxing Club at his own house Dhumbarahai. He was also the referee judge.
According to Shrestha, his family has already spent about Rs 600,000 for his treatment and the doctors involved in his treatment has referred him to India for further treatment. He need about Rs 1 million for his treatment in India.
Earlier, he had recieved financial support of Rs 74,000 from Nepal Boxing Association, Rs 200,000 from former Nepali boxers residing in Macau, 76,000 from contract employees of National Sports Council, Rs 16,000 from boxing coaches and Rs 6,000 from boxing players.
