memorable period of her life. The 15-year-old 10th grader of Triyog Higher Secondary School is one of the two Nepali students who participated in the contest. She is an optimistic girl who doesn’t shy away from opportunities.Tell us about the South Asian Horlicks Whiz Kid Contest.
I was one of the two students representing Nepal in the contest. Before we were selected, we had to qualify in all the tests: oral, written, quiz, talents round. For the finals in Bangalore, we were told that we had to prepare a presentation and the topic was underprivileged children. Since I was preparing for my pre-board examinations, I couldn’t give time to my project but I think it turned out well. It was a multimedia project and I took the help of Raksha Nepal. I took 25 children for an educational tour to the zoo. Surya Nepal sponsored Rs 20,000 for the tour and I also used it to buy stationeries for the children.
The four days in Bangalore were really fun and interesting. I was worried whether I would be able to adjust with people from different countries, but it was really good meeting everyone. For my talent round, I performed slam poetry and my project got a special mention, too.
What did you do to prepare for the contest?
Well, I’ve been attending classes in Today’s Youth Asia since I was in the fifth grade. That really helped me. Among other things, we learn about public speaking and to communicate well. I was a little nervous, but I think I did quite well.
What do you like doing when you don’t have to worry about your studies?
I like reading, singing and dancing. I’ve also been participating in elocution contests for the last four years. It was my dream to win the Best Elocutionist prize, and this year I finally did it. I was also awarded the Best Debater priz
