Besides that, the students should also take post graduate trainings in Psychiatry.
There are many fields within the study of Psychiatry like social psychiatry, anthropological psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry among others.
Sharma added that in order to treat patients with mental disorders, one has to study clinical psychiatry.
“Usually, medical students do not prefer to study psychiatry and the subject is still underestimated. It is a different and difficult subject because it deals with the human mind. Although it looks like a hard study to subject, once a student becomes a psychiatrist, it really becomes meaningful and enjoyable,” says Sharma.
He says that students need commitment, confidence and passion to become a Psychiatrist. “Psychiatrists not only help cure the mental disease of people but they help improve the quality of life of the people,” he says.
Moreover, he adds that there’s no health without mental health and so the subject should be respected and should be given more priority as the demand of it is more in society.
