There are altogether 18,456 polling stations across the country. As many as five volunteers will be deployed at each polling center, according to EC officials. EC has mandated all the polling officers to appoint volunteers and deploy them at the poling centers.[break]
EC Spokesperson Bir Bahadur Rai informed that volunteers have been appointed for five days. For the first three days, volunteers will work as office assistants while in the remaining two days they would facilitate election related activities.
This time around, EC has given high priority to women while appointing volunteers. EC is all set to deploy around 38,000 women volunteers for the election. “There will be at least two women deployed at each poling center,” maintained Rai.
“We have already finalized polling officers for all the 18,000 polling centers across the country. As officers reach their polling stations, they will start appointing volunteers at the local level,” said he.
Volunteers will be entrusted with putting ink mark on the fingers of voters and maintain order at poling stations. Wages for volunteers have been fixed in accordance with Constituent Assembly Member Election Directive-2070.
EC has directed polling officers with selecting volunteers at the local level. In the three constituencies of Ilam district, altogether 1,666 government employees are being deployed whereas around 400 volunteers will be appointed for election, according to the District Election Office, Ilam.
