MTPD along with the Nepal Bureau of Standards and Meteorology (NBSM) Kathmandu Metropolitan City had launched a campaign to punish unscrupulous taxi drivers. [break]
MTPD Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pawan Giri informed that 102 taxis were sent to NBSM for further action. Taxis with tampered meters are being fined Rs 1,000, while those sent to NBSM will be fined an additional Rs 2,000. Similarly, the traffic division has seized the driving licenses and documents of 35 taxi drivers.
Under the Operation Sweep campaign launched on Wednesday to curb the illegal parking at various places in the capital, 629 vehicles were punished in three days. The owners of illegally parked vehicles were Rs 200 to Rs 1,000.
Similarly, tractors and power tillers meant for farming are being used as a transportation vehicle. The traffic division has begun another campaign to discourage this practice from Friday. As many as 17 power tillers were penalized on the first day.
Giri mentioned that the drivers of tractors and power tillers will not be punished if they are found transporting agricultural products and other farming tools.
