8 sent to judicial custody in Dhegani murder case

CHITWAN, March 19: Chitwan District Court on Monday sent eight persons, arrested on the charge of beating and burning Dhegani Devi Mahato to death, to judicial custody.



Justice Lekhnath Dhakal sent Jogeshwar Mahato, Bikram Mahato, Bikramiya Mahato (Bikram´s wife), Manju Mahato, Bikram Mahato (Manju´s husband), Laxmi Mahato, Sanju Mahato and Krishna Kumari Mahato to judicial custody. [break]



Laxmi Mahato and Pashupati Mahato, who were also accused of involvement in Dhegani Devi´s murder, were, however, released on bail. Dhegani Devi was killed by Bikram Mahato and his family members on Februrary 17.



Jogeshwar Mahato, a self-styled faith healer, had instigated Bikram and his family members into killing Dhegani Devi accusing her of practising witchcraft.
