SIRAHA, Jan 16: A total of 64 laborers have been rescued from a Belhakati-based brick factory here in the district who were allegedly being kept to work at the factory without proper food and accommodation facilities.

The District Court (DC) rescued the ‘bonded’ workers as per the November 22 verdict of the Supreme Court (SC) after hearing on a writ petition earlier filed at the SC demanding the release of the ´bonded´ workers, Durga Prasad Bhushal, registrar at the DC informed.

Workers were rescued as they pleaded to free them as soon as an inspecting team comprising chief district officer Dhruba Prasad Dhakal, district police chief Bikram Gurun and registrar Bhushal reached to the factory as per the mandate of SC verdict.

The rescued workers have been temporarily kept at Siraha bazaar.
