An unidentified group of five persons had shot at Chaudhary at his Dhamkapur-based residence in Duruwa VDC-6 on October 19. Chaudhary had received bullet injuries in the incident. [break]
According to District Police Office, three of the assailants were arrested from a house in Tulasi Bazaar as the remaining two were caught at Ratihapur and Tarigaun.
The arrested have been identified as Parash Hamal and Bhanu Bhakta Basnet of Urahari VDC-8, Rana Bahadur Gharti of Hapur VDC-1, Hira Mani Chaudhary of Tarigaun VDC-7 and Gopal Gharti of Harpur VDC-1.
Police also seized a pistol, 10 rounds of bullets, sword, a kukuri, five mobile sets and Rs 7,150 from them. The identities of the assailants were made public at a press meet on Sunday.
Chaudhary, who was shot in the leg, is undergoing treatment in Nepalgunj.
Immediately after the shooting, a police team headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prakash Malla had been entrusted with investigating into the incident.
Speaking at the press meet, Malla said the arrested were also involved in the recent kidnapping of children.
“We have come to know that they had abducted Keshav Wali, 10, of Tulsipur municipality, and Sulab Bhandari, 9, on August 5,” said Malla. Police had rescued the children but the kidnappers were at large.
According to Malla, the assailants were preparing to perpetrate other crimes in Rukum, Banke and Bardia districts.
“Had we not succeeded in arresting them, they would have carried out activities to disrupt the upcoming Constitutional Assembly (CA) polls,” said Malla.
Meanwhile, Dang police on Sunday also arrested three persons involved in the murder of Ganesh Gudathoki of Rolpa district. The assailants were arrested from Harpur VDC. They have been identified as Rajesh Buda Magar, Pahal Buda Magar and Amrit Buda Magar of Rolpa district.
