5.2-magnitude earthquake hits eastern Nepal-India border area

TAPLEJUNG, March 28: An earthquake of 5.0 magnitudes hit the eastern Indian border of Nepal on Wednesday morning.



The epicenter was located to be some 63 kilometers away from Biratnagar according to the U.S. Geological Survey. [break]



The eastern districts including Taplejung, Panchthar, Ilam, Jhapa, Saptari, Sunsari, Morang and Siraha felt the tremor.



Three houses in Taplejung have been damaged by the earthquake. According to Rammi Acharya, a local in Khewang, houses of Gayatri Poudel, Odraj Dahal and Bachala Devi of Khewang-4 have been damaged.



However, no human casualties have been reported so far. The tremor was felt around 5:25 in the morning today, Umesh Gautam, technical officer at National Seismological Centre informed.



The epicenter of the earthquake was near Sunsari and Saptari, Gautam added. The jolt was felt for almost five seconds.
