45 days to HoR polls: Election Code of Conduct comes into effect

KATHMANDU, Jan 19: The Election Code of Conduct -2082 for the upcoming March 5 election to the House of Representatives (HoR) has come into force from last midnight.



Spokesperson of Election Commission Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said that a meeting of the EC convened on Sunday decided this, adding that implementation of the election code of conduct is aimed at holding the polls in a free, fair and fearless manner.

The code of conduct has already been published in the Nepal Gazette. 


The EC implemented the code of conduct by exercising the authority granted by Section 22 of the Election Commission Act-2073 to enable a free and fair environment.


The code of conduct binds the government agencies and its officials, ministers of the federal and provincial governments, constitutional bodies and their office-bearers, local government, bureaucrats, political parties and their sister organizations, universities, media houses and other public agencies.
