KATHMANDU, July 6: Police on Tuesday interrogated around 400 Tibetans in the capital. They were arrested from several areas including Bauddha, Swayambhu, Gaushala and Kalimati.

“They were released after two hours after making sure that they were not involved in anti-China activities,” said SP Ramesh Kharel, chief of Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu. He said the interrogations were part of preemptive actions taken to not let Tibetans stage anti-Chinese activities in the capital on the occasion of 75th birthday of the Dalai Lama.

Security was beefed up at Chinese Counselor Office, Hattisar, Embassy of China, Baluwatar, Bauddha and Swayambhu areas throughout the day, the police said.
