38 shops gutted in Saptari fire

RAJBIRAJ, Jan 17: More than three dozen shops were destroyed in a fire that broke out at a vegetable market, causing the loss of over Rs 3,000,000, in the Saptari district headquarters Thursday morning.



Police said 38 shops at Falful Height Line of Rajbiraj-1 were gutted in the fire that abruptly started at 3 in the morning. Mahesh Sah, Rinadevi Das, Dilip Sah, Birendra Das, Kulkul Jha were among those local shopkeepers who had to incur most losses. [break]



Nepal Army and police personnel and fire engines from Rajbiraj municipality jointly fought the fire before taking the blaze under control. Fire engines from Inaruwa and Dharan were also called in but were sent back while they were still on the way to the fire site, police said,
