In Nawalparasi, five farmers died when a chartered bus met with an accident at S-Mode. [break]Altogether 21 farmers sustained injuries in the accident, six of whom are said to be in critical condition. The police were yet to ascertain the names and addresses of the victims until Monday evening. The farmers were traveling to Bhairahawa to observe various farming methods and visit the shrines in Lumbini.
Meanwhile, one of the two dead in Makawanpur accident has been identified as Sthaneshwor Devkota, Executive Director of the Foreign Employment Promotion Board (FEPB). Dr Rakesh Panta, who was traveling along with Devkota, also died in the same accident.
Devkota, who was heading toward his ancestral home in Rautahat to meet his ailing father, died as his jeep (Ba. 8 Pa 4618) overturned after veering off the road in Bhimphedi VDC-8 in Makawanpur district.
Devkota and Dr Panta both died while undergoing treatment at Hetauda Hospital. Rajkumar Tamang, the driver of the jeep was injured in the accident. Devkota had served as Chief District Officer (CDO) in several districts before retiring as Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA). He was later appointed as the ED of the FEPB.
In Dhanusha, two people died when their bus (Na. 3 Kha 7892) rammed into a peepal tree at Dharapani along the East-West highway. Dinmaya Limbu, 80, of Jhapa district, died while undergoing treatment at Janakpur Zonal Hospital. The identity of the other dead is yet to be ascertained.
