Address Madhesi agendas: MPRF
Meanwhile, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) on Thursday decided not to be a part of the new government if there is no guarantee for peace, constitution-making and addressing the Madhesi agendas.
A central committee meeting of the party made a decision to help form a national consensus government till the last moment.
The MPRF also decided to keep the unity of four Madhesi parties intact and develop common strategy and work plan on Madhesi issues.
A press statement issued by party´s spokesperson Ratneshwor Lal Kayastha said the party would join a coalition government if there are grounds to ensure constitution drafting, peace process and implementation of agreements reached with Madhes-based parties in the past. “The party, however, will not become a part of any government and will stay in opposition and continue struggle for peace, constitution and Madhesi agenda,” added the statement.
However, BP Yadav, a central member of the party, said: "We have decided to field a candidate for the prime minister´s post from among the four Madhesi parties."
Also on Monday, a parliamentary party meeting of the MPRF-D gave responsibility to party chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachchahdar to decide as to whom to support in the prime minister´s election. The meeting also asked Gachchhadar to take initiative to help end the current political deadlock by holding talks with other political parties.
Gachchhadar said MPRF-D will take initiatives to help ´safeland´ the country from current political uncertainty. “We are not a decisive force. But we will take magical decision at the end [on whom to support in the prime minister´s election],” he said.
Sources said the party decided to wait for a decision on supporting any prime ministerial candidate until the UML takes a formal decision on government leadership. The party is in favor of supporting a government led by a democratic alliance.
