16,448 journalists get DoI press card

KATHMANDU, Sept. 1: The Department of Information (DoI) has so far provided accreditation cards or press passes to 16,448 journalists.



Number of women journalists getting accreditation cards from the Department during the period up to July 15 has reached 1,138, according to official sources. Likewise, total number of newspapers registered at the Department stands at 6,150. [break]It is noted that the Department has recorded the registration of total 713 newspapers in the last fiscal year alone.



Number of broadcasting television channel across the country has reached 39, FM 475, feature film 182, and advertisement film 175, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications.



The national broadcasting of Nepal Television has reached to 72 per cent of the total population of the country and 50 per cent of the geography, the Ministry sources confirmed.



Similarly the access of another state broadcaster, Radio Nepal, has expanded to 85 per cent by population and 70 per cent by territory.



The Ministry further informed that the distribution of telephone lines based on different technology has reached around 16.97 million across the country.



The Nepal Telecom has generated revenue of Rs 33.70 billion in the last fiscal year, it is learnt.
