15th Nepal education and book fair

KATHMANDU, May 12: To provide an apt platform to obtain information on education, career and books, Global Exposition & Management Services Pvt. Ltd. (GEMS Pvt. Ltd.) in co-operation with National Booksellers & Publishers Association of Nepal (NBPAN) is organizing the 15th Nepal Education & Book Fair 2011.



The fair is taking place from May 13 to May 21 at Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall, Kathmandu. [Break]



“We started with around 25 stalls when we organized this event for the first time and each time it’s getting bigger. We have a total of 89 participants including the publishers and educational institutes for this year’s program and is a great achievement for us in the academic sector,” said Keshab Khatri, business development manager at GEMS Pvt. Ltd.



Oxford Books Publications, Cambridge University Press Publications, and Pearson Publications are representing India and China at the fair and there will also be people representing both the countries at the event.



There are 23 publishers from Nepal including Ekta Books, Mandala Books, Ratna Pustak Bhandar and Bhairavi Prakashan.







“The participation of local exhibitors shows gradual development in the Nepali publishing industries,” Khatri further elaborated.



“We have been consistently organizing the book fair since the last few years and every time we have been successful in incorporating international representatives. This year we have representatives from China and India,” he added.



He further said that in order to provide a relief from the monotony of the event, they also have quiz competitions, handwriting competitions, fun activities for children and also new book releases by various authors and academic seminars as part of the event.



Khatri informed that professors from Kathmandu University (KU), from overseas and representatives from ECAN have been invited as speakers for the academic seminars.



The books available during the programs will range from general to academic, fiction, non-fiction, and literature. Different kinds of national and international books for diverse age groups will also be available at the exhibition.



Books on information, academics, entertainment banking, sociology, philosophy, literature, child development, health, medicine, engineering, tourism, management, IT, agriculture, among others, will attract readers from different walks of life.



For those students who have just completed their SLC and are on the lookout for colleges, the event will also feature stalls providing information on various colleges.



Trinity College, Informatics College, Guiness International College, Skylark International College, Thames International College, White Gold International College, GS College, and AJ Wild Institute are a few whose stalls will be opened during the event.



The nine-day-long event is expected to benefit around one hundred thousand visitors.



National and international educational institutions, training institutions, educational consultants, book publishers and book distributors will be accommodated in around 101 stalls.



“The event is the complete package of education activities and our main motive is to inculcate reading habits among the people,” Khatri opined.



The event offering information on different colleges will be held from May 13 to 17 and the book exhibition is scheduled from May 13 to 21.



The fair is open to all from 11 am to 6:30 pm.
