10 year strategy against untouchability endorsed

LALITPUR, Aug 25: A ten-year strategy on Dalit movement against caste-based discrimination and practices of untouchability has been endorsed.



The strategy was jointly prepared by the National Dalit Commission, Dalit NGO Federation, Suppressed and Dalit Community Upliftment Development Committee and Badi Development Committee. [break]



A workshop organised here today endorsed the strategy. On the occasion, Dalit NGO Federation Chairperson Gajadhar Sunar discussed about the thematic preliminary issues of Dalit movement, its achievements and challenges.



Dalit leader Khim Bahadur Bishwakarma said Dalit people are not aware of suppression they are facing and added Dalit movement has not been effective in the absence of cooperation among the bodies concerned.



Badi Development Committee Vice Chairperson Pushpa Badi said policies and programmes on dalit rights and issues have been meaningless due to lack of cooperation among the bodies concerned.



Dalit Commission member Ruku Ranpal said they would draw the attention of the government towards the implementation of the strategy.
