ESC has collected details of around 3,500 unemployed youths from six districts of Gandaki zone. “But this is not the exact figure as many youths didn´t turn up to give their details," said Chairman of Pokhara Labor Office (PLO) Rabi Bhatta. [break]“Unemployment is a huge problem here but the youths are reluctant to reveal their employment status.”
According to Bhatta, only 1,665 unemployed youths had filled out forms in 2011/12. “This program has been launched with the aim of identifying and managing the problem of unemployment." said Bhatta. “But hardly two people turn up in a month to fill out the forms.”
PLO had even tried to collect details from unemployed youths by setting up camps but to no avail.
The PLO does not aim at providing jobs to unemployed youths but instead to work a link between the unemployed youths and companies in need of manpower. “We introduce the job seekers to the companies that need manpower. We will also launch a website to facilitate unemployed youths find jobs," said Bhatta.
He said PLO will forward the job applications of the unemployed youths to companies in need of manpower. “The companies will then hire the ones they deem eligible," said Bhatta.
Most of the candidates filling out the forms are graduates. “Since the form also reveals the credentials of the candidate, there would be no difficulty for the companies to pick a suitable candidate,” said Bhatta.
