The Maoist youth organization also submitted over 200,000 signatures collected from various parts of the country to exert pressure on the CA to address various concerns of the general public, besides the timely drafting of the new constitution. The YCL collected the signatures from March 18 to 25.
The 14-point memorandum has demanded promulgation of the new constitution within the stipulated date, withdrawal of all facilities provided to former king Gyanendra, formation of a national coalition government, one-third representation for youths in all state structures, curbing of inflation and the black market, and better law and order.
Among other things, the MoU has demanded that parliament take initiative to stop land encroachment by India, punish the guilty involved in killing Maoist cadres including YCL members and compensate the victims´ families, revive the Youth Self-Employment Program and stop fraudulent activities over foreign employment.
Handing over the memorandum, YCL Chairman Ganesh Man Pun asked CA Chairman Nembang to help ensure timely drafting of the new constitution and incorporate various rights related to youths in the new constitution.
CA Chairman Nembang thanked the YCL for taking the initiative to raise the issue in various parts of the country. He also suggested the YCL keep exerting pressure on political parties to help draft the constitution on the stipulated date.
