CHITWAN, July 31: Chitwan chapter of the UCPN (Maoist)´s youth wing, Youth Communist League( YCL) has withdrawn the district banda effecting from 12 noon Wednesday.
Earlier, the YCL had enforced district banda demanding the release of its cadres who were held by police while collecting donation on Tuesday evening.[break]
The YCL however, given the ultimatum of 5 pm today to release them and warned of holding indefinite banda in the district if they were not released.
Police had arrested four YCL cadres while extorting money with Narayangadh-based businessmen and brought to the ward police office Narayangadh.
Earlier in last evening, YCL supporters manhandled policemen at Ward Police Office demanding the release of its cadres.
However, Suman, Chitwan district coordinator of the YCL denied the charges and clarified that it was just a minor incident of scuffle not the manhandling.
“Our friends went to the police office to demand the release of the arrestees. But minor scuffle occurred in the police office following police beat arrestees in front our friends", Suman added.
Police have arrested two more YCL cadres following the incidents.
on Tuesday evening, they were arrested based on the information that they were collecting money in the name of donation flouting the election code of conduct, said Chief of the Chitwan District Police Office, Pradyumna Karki.
The arrestees are Modraj Neupane, Uttam Gurung, Bishal Marahaththa, Manoj Sherpa, Rabi Parajuli and Bharat Magar.
The YCL Chitwan District Committee had held a news conference immediately after their arrest and warned that it would launch a strong agitation including banda if those arrested YCL cadres were not released until 10 a.m. today.
