This campaign encourages cities and individuals to work across multiple agencies with a wide range of partners to have the most lasting impact on health.”
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the 1000 cities, 1000 lives campaign will see events organized worldwide during the week of April 7-11.
The global goals of the campaign are to open up public spaces to health, whether it is activities in parks, town hall meetings, clean-up campaigns, or closing off portions of streets to motorized vehicles under 1000 cities.
Likewise, 1000 lives include collecting 1000 stories of urban health champions who have taken action and had a significant impact on health in their cities.
Giving a message on the occasion, Minister for Population and Health, Umakanta Chaudhary has appealed to all the city dwellers to keep the cities clean and healthy for a healthy living.
“The number of people living in cities in Nepal is on the rise too, however city dwellers face many health hazards”, Health Minister Chaudhary has said, and added that the Government was developing policy and programs considering the increasing urbanization and public health.
