Shanti Prangden, 60, of the Takme region of the district has died after a truck (Na 2 Kha 9403) ran over her, this afternoon.
She died on the spot after being hit by the truck coming from the opposite direction. She was returning home from market when the mishap happened, said Lok Darshan Thapa, police inspector at the district police office, Taplejung.
Police have detained the truck drive Arjun Sangraula and also impounded the vehicle.
The Bahanande-Phungling road section of the Mechi Highway has been disrupted after the accident.
