And speaking of reality shows, there have been so many things said about them, yet we still can’t bring ourselves to stop watching them. The point is they may not be informative, or show us anything really spectacular, but we watch them for the entertainment we get.[break]
And with the many reality shows on English, Hindi and Nepali TV channels, it’s getting quite good for us viewers. We can enjoy our fill of reality shows now.
But what are we watching?
Samina Satyal, 22, Office Assistant at the Nepalese Army Institute of Health Science (College of Medicine) says, “I watch Hindi reality shows and I especially enjoy watching ‘Dance India Dance.’ I think it’s a perfect platform to show the hidden talents of the participants. They can get appreciation and recognition for their talents through such shows and we can get our entertainment watching them dance and express themselves through the various styles they present for us. I watch it regularly.”
Reality shows are our dose of entertainment. Have we stopped caring whether they are real or staged? Perhaps we’ve understood that as far as such shows are concerned, we should only focus on how entertained we are.
Riken Lal Shrestha, 17, a student of Nobel Academy who has just appeared for his class 12 board examinations, explains, “I watch more of English shows because I find them authentic and more realistic than the Nepali or Hindi reality shows. Their reality shows are also more entertaining and show us interactions with renowned professionals. I watch The Voice, American Idol and ‘MasterChef Australia.’ I rarely watch Hindi shows but when I do, it’s mostly Indian Idol, Comedy Circus and Satyamev Jayate.
Sita Thebe, 25, is preparing for her IELTS exams. She says, “I like catching up with MTV Roadies and Dance, India Dance. When it comes to English shows, it has to be MasterChef Australia. I don’t watch any Nepali reality shows simply because I don’t know whether we have any aired in the channels.”
Well, whatever your preference, just switch on to your favorite show and sit back. An hour of entertainment awaits you.
