Vegetable prices shoot up

BHAKTAPUR, May 1: The prices of vegetables have skyrocketed in Bhaktapur following the Maoist announcement to enforce a general strike from May 2.



The prices of vegetable have increased by 100 to150 percent since Friday compared to the previous days. The price of cauliflower has reached to Rs. 55 per kg from Rs.25. The price of cabbage has reached to Rs. 40 per kg from Rs.10. Similarly, the prices of pointed gourd, beans, brinjal and ladies finger have increased by Rs. 30 to Rs.35 per kg.[break]



Likewise, the prices of fruits have also shot up these days. The prices of banana has reached Rs. 80 per dozen while the prices of apple and pomegranate have touched Rs.140 and Rs.190 per kg, respectively. The prices of vegetables and fruits increased after the announcement of Maoist general strike, said traders.
