Last year NEA bought transformers from Hubei Sunlight Electric Company China which were found to be of lower quality then mentioned in the tender.[break]
“It is a serious issue and we demand investigations as it would push financially troubled organization into deeper trouble in coming days,” said Amrit Bahadur Khapung, President, NEA Employees Welfare Council.
The Unions have written to the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) demanding a probe into the alleged corruption. The transformers had aluminum wires instead of copper that will increase electricity leakage, the unionists say.
NEA has one of the highest leakage rates of 27 per cent during electricity distribution. NEA officials declined to comment on the issue. Unions claimed that transformers, when installed, will lead to higher leakage due to the low quality of material used in the wires which will lead to more chronic power cut in future.
The Unions have also warned that they will launch protests if their demands are not heeded. “There should be immediate and independent investigation on this issue and the culprits should be brought to the books, otherwise we will launch protests,” said Senior Vice President, NEA Employee Association.
