UNCHR deputy commissioner arrives

KATHMANDU, June 12: Deputy High Commissioner of the Geneva-based office of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee (UNHCR), Alexander Aleinikoff has arrived here on Tuesday on a four-day official visit to Nepal.



During his visit, he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Deputy Prime Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, high-placed government officials, chiefs of UN agencies in Nepal and the heads of NGOs collaborating with UNHCR´s office in Nepal.



He will visit Jhapa, Beldangi-based Bhutanese refugee camp on June 13 (Wednesday) and Sanischare-based refugee camp on Thursday and take stock of the situation of Bhutanese refugees.



He is expected to observe the programmes conducted for refugees and also acquire information about rehabilitation programme, said the UNHCR office said.
