UN pledges to continue support to peace process

KATHMANDU, Jan 14: The Security Council has urged the government and the political parties to redouble their efforts for peace process, pledging support to the Nepal´s peace process even after the departure of UNMIN on Saturday.



"The Security Council reaffirms its support for the peace process and calls on the caretaker Government of Nepal and all political parties to redouble their efforts, to continue to work together in the spirit of consensus to fulfil the commitments that they made in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and other agreements, and to resolve expeditiously the outstanding issues of the peace process," said Council President Ivan Barbalic, ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Nations, said in a statement endorsed by the Council meeting on Friday. The Security Council has also urged parties to complete its new constitution by May 28.



The Council has also thanked Karin Landgren, representative of the Secretary General, and UNMIN staff for their effort in supporting the peace process.
