KATHMANDU, June 21: CPN-UML leaders from the dissident group who held a two-day gathering in Dhulikhel on the outskirts of Kathmandu, have decided to continue their struggle until the last to get their demands fulfilled.

The dissident leaders said they will opt to form a new political force only as a last resort if the UML´s top leadership does not address their demands.[break]

UML Vice-chairman Ashok Rai and some other influential leaders from the Madhesi, ethnic and indigenous communities have been demanding that the party stand for delineation and naming of the federal provinces solely on the basis of ethnic identities.

"Our two-day meeting came up with the decision that we will struggle from within the party until the last to get our demands fulfilled," said former state minister for home Rijwan Ansari. "But we will be compelled to constitute a new political force for our cause if the party refuses for long to listen to our voice."

He said they have vowed to fight for CA reinstatement and a proposal to seek any alternative other than the CA to write the new constitution would not be acceptable.

According to Ansari, none of the dissident leaders will participate in the UML´s meetings and other formal events until and unless their demands are met.

"We will remain in the party for some time without participating in party meetings and then we will decide our next move," he explained.

Prithivi Subba Gurung, Bijay Subba, Ram Chandra Jha, Rakam Chemjong and Rajendra Shrestha are some other leaders in the dissident group.
