UML´s office-bearers, standing committee members, central members, lawmakers, and intellectuals close to the UML are participating in the gathering.[break]
Addressing the gathering, chairman of the CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal said establishing lasting peace and drafting of the new constitution was the need of the hour to adopt federalism in the country.
The meeting is expected to give inputs to the UML to prepare the party´s official stance on federalism and its different aspects.
Chairman Khanal said the meeting should reach conclusion on number of federal states, names, provinces´ delineation, distribution of rights, preferential rights, and prerogative rights, among others.
The suggestions received from the gathering would be tabled at the party central committee meeting to take a final decision on system of federalism, Khanal said.
In the gathering, Chief of Federal Affairs Department of the UML, Parshuram Meghi Gurung, has tabled a working paper on concept and exercises on federalism.
Gurung has proposed for eight provinces with 12 units in his working paper.
In his working paper, Gurung has stressed on making bases for federalism to geographical location, population, languages, cultural situation, administrative accessibility, economic, social and cultural interrelations, and availability of means and resources, among others.
Similarly, Chief of Local Development and Physical Infrastructure Department of the UML, Netra Panthi has also presented a working paper on State Restructuring.
