KATHMANDU, July 27: Nepali U-19 cricket team left Kathmandu on Friday to participate in the U-19 World Cup scheduled to begin from August 11 in Australia but three players -- Avinash Karn, Saurav Khanal and Ram Naresh Giri -- could not take the flight as Australian Embassy held their visa process. Nepali team will reach Darwin on Saturday with transits in Singapore and Brisbane.

According to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) General Secretary Ashok Nath Pyakuryal, the Austrlian embassy has asked Khanal, Karn and Giri to get their parents sign their visa application forms as they are still minors.[break]

"The three players are minors and the embassy has asked them to get visa application forms signed by their parents," said Pyakuryal. "We are hopeful of completing the visa procedures by Monday and they will leave on August 3 along with other team officials," added Pyakurel.

Though CAN member Sunil Amatya and video-analyst Raman Siwakoti´s visa aplications were rejected, Pyakuryal hinted that they would not apply for it again. "To complete the visa process it takes three weeks and applying again for visa has no worth," said Pyakuryal.

Coach Pubudu Dassanayake, team manager Kiran Rana, captain Prithu Baskota and other 11 players left Kathmandu on Friday while assistant coach Jagat Tamata will fly Australia on August 3 along with the three players if they get visa.

"It will be tight without three fast bowlers in the practice matches," said coach Dassanayake.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama and the CAN officials bade farewell to the Nepali team.

Nepali U-19 team under the captainship of Prithu Baskota will play two friendly matches on July 29 and August 3 against the local clubs in Darwin and against Papua New Guinea and New Zealand at Brisbane as warm-up matches.

Nepal will play against Australia on August 13 at Tony Ireland Stadium (TIS), Townsville and take on Ireland on August 15 at Endeavour Park 1. Nepal will face England on August 16 at TIS.

Meanwhile, CAN appointed Thilina Vithana, an Australian of Sri Lankan origin, as the team physio of Nepali U-19 team for the tournament. CAN has appointed Vithana on the recomendation of coach Dassanayake.

Shrestha in ACC finance committee

Meanwhile, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) appointed Nepal as the member of Finance and Marketing Committee. General Secretary Pyakuryal said CAN Tresurer Raju Babu Shrestha will represent Nepal in the committee. The Finance and Marketing Committee member has a tenure of two years.
