Two held with elephant tusks

JHAPA, Aug 5: Police have arrested two people in Jhapa on the charge of smuggling of elephant tusks.



The arrested are Mohan Sharma, 30, of Kohabara-9 and Hiradevi Rajbanshi (Nisha) of Arjundhara-6, according to the Area Police Office, Birtamod. [break]



They were arrested from the house of Rajbanshi.



Police recovered two elephant tusks (19 inches and 13 inches long) from them.



According to the prevailing laws, the two may face 15- year jail term and fines of up to Rs. 200,000 if they are proved guilty, said Chief of the District Forest Office, Bishnu Prasad Bhandari.
