Two die of rabies in Jhapa

JHAPA, Feb 21: Two persons have died of rabies at Mechinagar-10 Kakadvitta in Jhapa district during a week.



The locals have been terrorized after the death of two locals due to rabies. [break]



Rohan Joshi, 42, of Purano Bhansar of Kakadvitta died on Monday while undergoing treatment in Siliguri, India. North Bengal Medical Hospital in Siliguri confirmed that Joshi was suffering from rabies, according to the family source.



Similarly, Serina Shrestha, 7, of Bahundangi Road of Kakadvitta died of rabies. She was rushed to Kathmandu after the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, referred her to Kathmandu for further treatment, saying she suffering from rabies.



It is said that dog had bitten the deceased some four months ago. It is learnt that both of them were not administered anti-rabies vaccines.



Local Gopal Siwakoti said 200 plus rabid dogs have been straying in different areas of Kakadvitta for long.
