To implement the week long campaign, the MTPD has deployed 85 traffic police in civil dress at different places in the Kathmandu Valley, said the traffic spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pawan Giri.[break]
The MTPD generally fines around 200 vehicles when the traffic were deployed on uniform. However, the number has more than doubled to more than 400 everyday in the last four days and are being fined Rs 100-1000 as per the nature of their offence, according to the traffic.
“It is a misconception among people that traffic rule is mere a rule, and try to avoid them in the absence of Traffic police. The MTPD may extend the campaign depending upon the success of this drive,” he added.
